The Kwara State Government has launched a fresh legal battle against former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The state filed a 20-count charge against the two political figures, accusing them of culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy linked to the tragic 2018 Offa bank robbery.

Also named in the suit are Yusuf Abdulwahab, who served as Ahmed’s Chief of Staff, and Alabi Olalekan, a former aide to the governor.

The case, marked KWS/114C/26, will be heard before Justice Haleemah Salman at the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, with formal arraignment scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, 2026.

This latest move follows years of controversy surrounding the deadly Offa robbery, which claimed several lives.

According to the state, the former leaders and their associates were involved in arming and sponsoring those responsible for the attack.

A key part of the prosecution’s case is the testimony of Ayo Akinnibosun, one of the convicted robbers. He previously described himself as a “hit man” within Saraki’s political circle, alleging that Yusuf Abdulwahab supplied him with two AK-47 rifles shortly before a political congress.

Akinnibosun also claimed he received a Toyota Lexus 300 Jeep bearing Saraki’s personalized number plate, along with cash intended for political “empowerment.”

He further alleged that he led a group of political thugs who worked in the interests of both Saraki and Ahmed, and that his team even provided security for Saraki during a condolence visit to Offa after the robbery.

The prosecution says these claims are supported by the 2018 recovery of vehicles and other exhibits from the Kwara State Government House and a government ministry, which it argues link the administration to the crime.

Saraki has consistently denied the allegations, describing the case as a “political witch-hunt” aimed at damaging his reputation and ending his public service career.

Despite the denials, the state is proceeding with the case following a recent Court of Appeal decision that upheld the convictions of the robbers, paving the way for this expanded prosecution.
