The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has described the fight against corruption and financial crimes as a generational obligation that goes beyond patriotism.

Olukoyede made the remarks on Monday, May 25, 2026, while addressing postgraduate students of the University of Jos who visited the commission on a study tour in Abuja.

Represented by the Head of Media and Publicity and spokesperson of the commission, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC chairman stressed that the future of coming generations depends largely on tackling corruption and eliminating its damaging effects on society.

“For us, fighting corruption is not just about enforcing the law, not just a patriotic duty, it is a generational obligation,” he said.

Olukoyede urged the students to see themselves as key stakeholders in the anti-corruption campaign by becoming agents of positive change in their various communities.

He also called on Nigerians to view the fight against corruption as a collective responsibility necessary for securing a better future for the next generation.

Speaking on cybersecurity, Kayode Eniola explained that cybersecurity involves protecting computers, mobile phones, electronic devices and sensitive data from unauthorised access and online threats.

She identified major aspects of cybersecurity to include network security, application security, information security, cloud security and cyber forensics, stressing the need for individuals to carefully protect their devices from online manipulation and cyber attacks.

Also speaking at the event, Aisha Mohammed reiterated that the EFCC’s mandate covers prevention, investigation and prosecution of economic and financial crimes.

According to her, the commission regularly carries out public enlightenment campaigns in collaboration with schools, tertiary institutions, trade unions, professional groups, motor parks and other public institutions as part of efforts to prevent corruption.

She added that the EFCC also investigates petitions and intelligence reports submitted to the agency before initiating prosecution where necessary.

Mohammed reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to intensifying efforts aimed at combating corruption and financial crimes across Nigeria.
