Former Nigerian Petroleum Minister Diezani Allison-Madueke has been acquitted of all charges brought against her by a court in the United Kingdom, bringing an end to a legal battle that lasted more than a decade.

In a statement issued after the ruling at Southwark Crown Court on June 17, Allison-Madueke said she had been cleared of all allegations and described the outcome as a complete vindication.

“For eleven arduous years, this matter has weighed heavily upon me and my family. Today, a decade of unrelenting and unjust vilification, condemnation, and scrutiny has finally concluded,” she said.

The former minister expressed gratitude to God, her legal team, family, and friends for their support throughout the proceedings. She added that she was profoundly relieved by the verdict, saying her name had been cleared and the ordeal had finally come to an end.

Allison-Madueke also indicated that she would speak further about the experience and her future plans at a later date. For now, she said she intends to enjoy the freedom that had been denied to her during the years of legal proceedings.
