The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 30 suspected cultists following a coordinated operation that disrupted an alleged cult initiation gathering in Isara-Remo, within the Remo axis of the state.

The arrests were made on June 16, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, security operatives acted on credible intelligence indicating that a group of suspected hoodlums had assembled at an uncompleted building in the area for activities linked to cultism.

The police said preliminary findings suggested that the gathering involved meetings, chanting, alcohol consumption, and suspected initiation activities.

Following the intelligence report, the Commander of the VCRU deployed a combined team of officers who swiftly moved to the location and dispersed the gathering in a tactical operation that led to the arrest of 30 suspects.

The command disclosed that several individuals escaped during the raid, abandoning four vehicles that were subsequently recovered by the police.

Security operatives also recovered items believed to have been used during the gathering, including a jack knife, a local drum, a traditional rattle known as a “sekere,” and bottles suspected to have contained alcoholic beverages.

All arrested suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta, where investigations are ongoing. The police said the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command added that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend other individuals who fled the scene during the operation.

Reacting to the development, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their prompt response and professionalism, describing the operation as a reflection of the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing.

He reaffirmed the police command’s stance against cultism and other violent crimes, warning that unlawful associations and criminal activities would not be tolerated anywhere in the state.

Ojajuni also urged young people involved in cult-related activities to renounce such affiliations and embrace lawful pursuits, while encouraging residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.

The police further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious gatherings or criminal activities to the nearest police station to aid ongoing efforts to maintain peace and public safety across the state.
