A 26-year-old Ghanaian lawyer, Sarah Araba Tettey, has died after reportedly collapsing while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, sparking widespread grief and tributes across social media.

According to Citi Newsroom, the incident occurred on Wednesday at Standard Hostel, a private residence in Bomso, near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she was reportedly watching the match with friends.

Witnesses said Tettey, an alumna of KNUST’s Faculty of Law, suddenly collapsed during post-match celebrations following Ghana’s win. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel attempted to revive her but later pronounced her dead.

The young lawyer had been called to the Ghana Bar earlier in the year and was practising with O & A Legal Consult, according to reports.

Her sudden death has triggered an outpouring of condolences from friends, colleagues, and former classmates, many of whom described her as a promising legal professional whose life was cut short unexpectedly.

As of the time of filing this report, her family has not issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding her death, and the exact cause remains unconfirmed by medical authorities.

Her body has been deposited at a mortuary, pending further arrangements by the family.

The incident has added a sombre note to celebrations surrounding Ghana’s World Cup performance, with many calling for awareness around sudden health emergencies during high-stress or emotionally intense events.
