Media mogul and founder of CNN, Ted Turner, has died at the age of 87 after a prolonged battle with dementia.
Turner Enterprises confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday morning. The larger-than-life figure, widely regarded as one of the most influential personalities in modern media, had revealed in 2018 that he was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia, shortly after his 80th birthday.
Turner’s impact on global broadcasting was profound. He revolutionised television by launching CNN, the world’s first 24-hour news network, fundamentally changing how news is delivered and consumed across the globe.
Beyond news, he was a pioneer in expanding cable television and played a key role in shaping modern media distribution. His influence also extended into sports and philanthropy, where he left a lasting legacy.
In 1991, Turner was named Man of the Year by Time Magazine in recognition of his transformative contributions to media and public life.
